SAVE Britain’s Heritage

The charity known as SAVE Britain’s Heritage produce an annual list of Heritage Buildings at Risk.  Their latest list, published this week, includes several buildings in Hull:

(1)    At St Andrew’s Dock, the Hydraulic Tower and Pump House, plus the adjacent Lord Line Building.
(2)    The foundry at RoseDowns’ premises in Caroline Street.  The firm have made oil seed crushing machinery on this site for many years, but the foundry, dating from 1777, originally made cannons for the navy.
(3)    The silo at the Isis oil mill in Morley Street.  Latterly owned by Cargill, this closed in 2022.
(4)    An 18th Century warehouse at 14 Bishop Lane.
(5)    A Georgian house at 1 Jarratt Street, built in 1796, and recently sold at auction.
(6)    Another Georgian house at 12 Grimston Street, dating from the same year, and also sold at auction.
(7)    A pair of Georgian houses at 53-55 Beverley Road, built in 1825.   Permission was granted for these to be converted into nine flats, but there has been no progress on this.

SAVE have a good record finding new uses for buildings which have fallen out of use, so it is to be hoped that they can use their influence to find new uses for some, at least, of these buildings.
